Responsibility
Responsibility you can audit, not just read about.
We keep our claims specific: an adopted ethical trading code, audited factories, our own teams managing the supply chain, and a measurable investment in solar energy at our UK headquarters.
Ethical trading
The ETI Base Code, applied.
Caldeira has adopted the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code — an internationally recognised code of labour practice covering freely chosen employment, safe working conditions, living wages, working hours and no discrimination.
Because we manufacture ourselves and manage sourcing through our own team in Hangzhou, these standards are applied directly rather than delegated to intermediaries. The factories we use are audited.

People & working conditions
Standards that travel with the product.
Whether a cushion is sewn in Liverpool or Hangzhou, the same expectations apply: safe workplaces, fair treatment and proper oversight. Our supplier team manages factory relationships directly and audits are part of how we work, not an afterthought.
During the coronavirus crisis, our Liverpool factory was repurposed to make PPE gowns for healthcare workers — a measure of how the company thinks about its responsibilities beyond the order book.

Energy
Solar power at The Cushion Factory.
In 2023 we installed more than 1,000 solar panels at our Knowsley headquarters — a first phase with a generation capacity of 500KW, offsetting emissions the company reports as equivalent to approximately 11,000 trees.
The installation was designed with room for a second phase of up to 2,300 panels and one megawatt of capacity. Following the investment, the company reported achieving carbon-negative status for its UK operations.
We use the term "carbon negative" as reported in the company's own announcements; the underlying methodology is a matter for the company's reporting rather than this website.

Materials, packaging & waste
Practical choices, honestly described.
Materials
Our eco draught excluder range is developed with an emphasis on lower-impact materials. Recycled fabric and fill options for other ranges are available on enquiry — specific claims are confirmed per product, per programme.
Packaging
Packaging is specified with each retail customer to their own requirements and sustainability policies.
Waste
Manufacturing in our own factory means offcuts and seconds are managed at source. Detailed waste reduction figures will be published here once confirmed by the company.
