Who we are
A manufacturer first.
We make cushions — we don't just trade them. Our Liverpool factory sews and fills, our Hangzhou operation manufactures and sources at volume, and our New York showroom puts the collections in front of North American buyers.
That combination lets us design, develop, manufacture and supply complete cushion programmes for retailers — at competitive prices, to dependable quality, on retail critical paths.

Our story
Started on a market stall.
Tony Caldeira founded the company in 1986, selling cushions from a market stall in Liverpool. The business grew by doing the simple things dependably: good product, fair prices and orders delivered on time.
Those principles took Caldeira from the stall to its own UK factory, then to China in 2003 and New York in 2007. They still shape how the company works with every customer today.

1986
Founded in Liverpool
Tony Caldeira starts the business on a market stall in Liverpool, selling cushions to local customers.
2003
Manufacturing and sourcing in China
Caldeira establishes its operation in Hangzhou, adding volume manufacturing and an international sourcing base to the UK factory.
2007
Caldeira arrives in New York
The company opens in the USA, giving North American retailers a direct route to its collections.
2020
Cushion factory turns to PPE
During the coronavirus crisis, the Liverpool factory is repurposed to manufacture PPE gowns for healthcare workers.
2022
£3m headquarters at Knowsley
A £3 million investment creates The Cushion Factory: an 85,000 sq ft headquarters bringing manufacturing, warehousing, offices and showroom together on one three-acre site.
2023
Solar investment
More than 1,000 solar panels are installed at the headquarters — a 500KW first phase the company reports has made its UK operations carbon negative.

A global partner in cushions
Caldeira supplies retailers worldwide from three locations on three continents, combining UK manufacturing, Chinese volume and sourcing, and a New York showroom.
